6 Senses International Preschool Fosters:
- A safe and secure school environment
- A supportive, congenial classroom atmosphere
- Active participation in school activities and events
- Mutually respectful partnerships between students, staff and parents
BEFORE THE ENROLLMENT STARTS: Adaptation We care that child would enter the community, get along with the staff and new friends, would feel safe in the new environment. The smoother the adaptation, the less negative emotions the child or parents have to face. This is why we offer a gradual adaptation for toddlers: the child can get used to the new environment, teachers and children while feeling mother’s or father’s presence at the same time. 5 steps of adaptation: Step 1: the child comes with a parent before the morning circle and stays for about 2 hours. Step 2: the child comes with a parent and spends half day in the preschool. Step 3: the child comes with a parent who stays for 30 min., then says Goodbye and leaves; the child spends about 2 hours in the preschool. Step 4: the child comes with a parent who stays for 30 min., then says Goodbye and leaves; the child spends half day in the preschool. Step 5: a parent brings the child, says Goodbye and leaves; the child spends half day or full day (depends on the chosen program) in the preschool.
IMPORTANT! If you think the adaptation will be smoother if the child brings his beloved toy or blanket – please bring it. If you believe the shorter or longer adaptation suits your child more, we can adjust and discuss the adaptation that you think is the best for your child and your family. We ask parents always say Goodbye to the child and to say they will get back. We have a special ritual of saying Goodbye – ask out teachers and they will explain it to you. Day-to-Day Procedures Working hours of 6 Senses International Preschool are 7.30 a.m. – 6.00 p.m. *We kindly ask you to respect teacher’s personal time and take the child before the working hours ends. Also, please fill the table with the contacts of people who are allowed to take your child from the preschool. If you want a person not from the list to take your child, please inform the teachers in a written form latest in the morning of the day. We hope that children will attend the classes regularly and will not be late. The Morning Circle starts at 9.30 every morning and we expect all children to participate in the Morning Circle. If you know you will be late, please inform us as early as possible. What to have on the first day After signing the enrollment agreement or you will get the list of the items you have to bring the first day. We remind you to mark every item with your child’s name or initials: clothes, pillows, blankets, personals. PLEASE do not put items into plastic bags – use a bag of a fabric or other kids-friendly material. IMPORTANT! Please do not bring unsafe toys or toy guns: swards, small glass balls or other small or sharp toys. Health certificate On the first week of the enrollment, we ask to bring a health certificate verifying that the child can go to the preschool. Days off Nevertheless 6 Senses International Preschool works all year, the preschool might be closed after study year ends in June (last week of June) and shortly before next study year starts (last week of August), the days between Christmas and New Year. The school will be closed for Latvian National Festivals and celebration days. • Shortened working days (7 working hours) – day before Public Holiday • School calendar is to follow up with exact study year
EVERYDAY RHYTHM Daily meals Families can order three daily meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Snacks have to be brought from home. The breakfast starts at 8.30 and ends at around 9:00 – if parents want the child to have breakfast in the preschool, please make sure the child comes on time. In 6 Senses International Preschool we eat healthy: please make sure there is no chocolate, sweets, potato chips or other unhealthy food in child‘s lunch box. Also, we drink only water in the preschool – please don‘t fill the flask or bottle with other drinks. The older classes might have healthy local juice for lunch. Clothing We kindly ask to dress the child comfortable and appropriate – please avoid clothes with innapropriate or offensive notes or pictures. It is always better to dress the child in more layers so it is easy to take off or put on the clothes. Also we want to remind that we do a lot of arts in the preschool; although children wear aprons during the art activities it doesn‘t always protect the clothes. Children of young age often have misfortunes – please leave at least one set of extra clothes in the wardrobe (underwear, socks, pants/skirt, t-shirt, etc.). We also remind to write child‘s name on every item and the bag. Lost & Found We keep all the lost things - look at the Lost & Found boxes if your child lost something
